About the Napa Cinematic AI Symposium
Goddess is an esoteric tale chronicling a being’s experience on Earth, divided into four chapters. The film begins with a scene of meticulous fishball-making, a skill perfected by the wife of a fishmonger. It then transitions to depict the countless household chores and tasks performed over the years by ‘the Goddess’—so repetitive and mindless that she eventually forgets who she is and where she came from. One day, she wakes up and leaves without hesitation. Upon her return to the heavenly realms, when asked about her time on Earth, she looks back only to see it as a mere illusion. This film is an homage to Niceaunties’ grandmother and to all women stuck in their earthly roles, waiting to break free.
Summary
Niceaunties is a Singapore-based artist and designer whose practice reimagines the cultural figure of the “auntie.” Through speculative storytelling, she places ageing women at the centre of everyday life, exploring themes of food, beauty, care, and environmental awareness through AI, digital art, and mixed media. Her ongoing world-building project, Auntieverse, was presented in a TED Talk and has been exhibited internationally, including at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, the V&A London, and Christie’s Art + Tech Conference in New York. She was commissioned by the City of West Hollywood for Aunties on Sunset.
